1. Birmingham City Council Route to Net Zero Team (information for all Birmingham and Solihull providers)

The council is proud to be taking a leading role working with individuals, communities, businesses, and partners across the city to act now on the causes and impacts of climate change. On 11 June 2019 the council declared a climate emergency (see link below) and made a commitment to reduce the city’s carbon emissions and limit the climate crisis. As part of this declaration, an ambitious target was set for 'the council and city to become net zero carbon by 2030, or as soon as possible thereafter as a just transition allows', going beyond the Government's own net zero by 2050 target.

2. Please ensure care plans and risk assessments are attached to requests for DoLS assessments (information for all Birmingham contracted care homes)

A request is being made from Birmingham City Councils Social Care Team that providers ensure they attach care plans and risk assessments in every instance when requesting a DoLS assessment via the portal;

Request for new and further Standard Authorisation for Deprivation of Liberty and DoLS Review | Birmingham City Council

Please also ensure you complete all relevant parts of DoLS Forms 1 and 2 with as much information as possible. This will help Birmingham City Council’s DoLS Team to prioritise the referrals and carry out the assessments accordingly.

4. REMINDER Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC): Adult Social Care Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS) for 2024 to 2025 (information for all providers)

The Department of Health and Social Care has launched a new fund, the Adult Social Care Learning and Development Support Scheme (LDSS) for 2024 to 2025. The new fund will be administered by the NHS Business Services Authority (NHS-BSA).

As ever,the funding pot is finite.First steps for all employers include submitting an expression of interest form (see link below) and updating the Workforce Data Set using the link below in order to be eligible. For new qualifications, 60% of funding can be claimed at the start of the course and the remaining 40% is payable with evidence of completion. A list of funded training and qualifications can be found here;

5. REMINDER Alzheimer’s Society Information and Support group for younger people affected by Dementia various dates September to December 2024 (information for all Birmingham and Solihull providers)

The Alzheimer’s Society are offering an informal get together for younger people affected by dementia and an opportunity to make friends, share experiences, and to get information, advice and support. There are various dates throughout September to December 2024 held at Edgbaston Community Centre.

6. REMINDER Infection Prevention and Control Annual IPC Expo 15 October 2024 (information for all providers)

The IPC Annual Expo takes place Tuesday 15 October 2024, between 10.00am – 15.00pm at Moseley Hall Hospital. This event coincides with International Infection Prevention Week.

7. Skills for Care Midlands Regional launch - State of the adult social care sector and workforce in England report 12 November 2024 (information for all Central and Eastern England providers)

The event will be held via Zoom on 12 November 2024 at 10:00am – 11:45am.

Each year, Skills for Care produce important insights about the adult social care workforce on a national, regional and local level. These insights are used to inform planning, funding and decision making across the sector. In October Skills for Care will launch their latest State of the adult social care sector and workforce in England report along with new regional data.

At this event you will hear the headline findings from your regional data and what they mean for you - including the size and structure of the workforce, recruitment and retention trends, local workforce demographics, pay and training. You will also hear how the data is used to inform workforce planning and how you can access and use our data throughout the year.

During the session delegates will be invited to join breakout rooms to hear further information about the data relevant to the area that they are located in.
