Perry Barr Residential Scheme – Phase One
A total of 1,414 brand new homes are being built on the former Birmingham City University (BCU) Teaching Campus at Aldridge Road.
Key features
The scheme includes:
- a mix of apartments and family homes
- significant areas of public space, as well as private courtyards and amenity spaces
What has happened so far?
Construction of the first 968 homes, which were built over four plots within the site, started in January 2020. It was completed in phases by the lead contractor by spring 2023.
This was followed by internal fit-out works which completed in spring 2024.
Our strategy is to achieve a balanced housing mix that meets local needs and provides a choice of tenure types.
For this reason, the council has taken the decision to retain 213 homes within one plot for council housing use Additionally, the council has sold 487 homes within two plots on the development to L&G Affordable Homes which will be available for affordable rent and through shared ownership schemes, This means that so far all 700 homes will be affordable, more than doubling the affordable housing target of 312 set out in the planning application.
